Fresh Produce Friday

I will be placing an order for fruit, vegetables, milk, bread and eggs shortly. Meals for next week will include teriyaki chicken, bolognaise, Shepherd's pie and possibly pumpkin soup. Mrs H gave me a meal planner for my birthday which I will enjoy using.

I felt guilty last night as I left for an appointment at 6pm and left husband E to finish homework and give the children their dinner. There was not much left in the fridge and pantry as I had a huge grocery list to deal with at the shops. When I came home though, husband E said that there had been plenty of soup left over and all enjoyed the last of the chocolate cake with ice cream for dessert. Loaves and fishes....

I recognize the apples, but what type of fruit is with the apples in the bowl?

Never mind. I think I know now after closer inspection....figs. I had a fig tree once when I owned a farm in the country. Of all the fruit I truly felt as if I was eating sugar when I bit into a fig.

Passionfruit. See if you can find a picture of a passionfruit flower, they are amazing

Well mercy me. I have heard of passion fruit but have never truly seen one. Could you describe what it tastes like, please? And now I will go and do some research on this plant.

It can be quite bitter. We drizzle it over very sweet meringue. It prob is very similar to sarsparilla (excuse spelling). It also is known as granodilla in South Africa. (excuse spelling)

Passionfruit in icing is an old-fashioned Australia topping for cakes and my favourite way to use passionfruit.
